About Us

The Kingdom Taskforce for Children's Rights of the Kingdom of the Netherlands was established in 2014 with the aim of promoting collaboration in the field of children's rights between all entities within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The desired end result is a Kingdom in which there are no major differences in terms of compliance with and enforcement of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. All children of the Kingdom must be able to grow up in a safe, healthy and promising manner. They must be able to develop and participate. That is the core of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) to which the Kingdom has committed itself.

Other important areas of concern that the Taskforce draws attention to are the fight against child poverty and the position of migrant children who reside on the islands without a residence permit. Dire situations exist at the moment that we, as developed countries, must not allow to continue. Children have basic rights under the CRC and should not be held responsible for their parents' decisions.

The Taskforce tries to achieve its main goal by focusing on the following tasks:

  • Develop a joint vision on improving the rights of children in the Kingdom;

  • Solicited and unsolicited advice to the political authorities for youth and family;

  • Stimulating the exchange of knowledge and best practices between the countries and public bodies, in collaboration with the government agencies and organizations that promote awareness of children's rights in the six (island) countries;

  • Monitoring the development of children's rights in the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom;

  • Report annually to the responsible political authorities for youth and family on the activities of the Intercountry Taskforce on Children's Rights and the progress of the action plans of the countries and Public Bodies to improve children's rights, accompanied by an opinion.

The spearheads that the Taskforce focuses on are also important when drawing up short and long-term plans.
